RUSH LIGHT
night trail,
more comfortable and safer.
Collaboration with Milestone
Leverage Strengths
Trailmaster + RUSH LIGHT is a collaborative development between Milestone, a reputable Japanese headlamp brand, and PAAGOWORKS, known for the Rush series of trail running packs.
Waist Light
A simple running light belt that attaches with a buckle.
Benefits of the Waist Light
Double Light
Using both a headlamp and a waist light during night runs is effective. Not only does it enhance safety, but it also reduces neck and head fatigue by eliminating the need to illuminate the ground with the headlamp.
Night Visibility
It provides wide illumination down to the feet, ensuring safe running. The light is projected from waist height, maintaining good visibility even in foggy conditions. (Left: Headlamp only 160 lm, Right: Headlamp 160 lm and Waist Light 160 lm)
Simple Design Considering Runner Usability
FITTING
The design developed in the RUSH series minimizes light bounce while running. By incorporating some stretchable materials, it achieves a fit that adapts to body position changes.
EASY STRAP
The buckle allows for one-touch on and off, and the strap can be easily adjusted with one hand.
A pocket suitable for storing slim items like smartphones and gels.
ATTACHED LIGHT
With 20mm Velcro, you can attach lights like the Milestone MS-G1. (Image shows the Milestone MS-G1 attached)
DESIGNER'S VOICE
“I want to create a waist light using the TRAIL MASTER. Can you help out?”
Mr. Nishioka is the kind of guy who handles everything at milestone—from product development to sales—all while taking on 100-mile races himself. As for me, Watanabe, the guy writing this, my motivation was at its peak as I was gearing up for the 2021 UTMF. There was no way I could say no to such an offer. “Let’s do it!” I replied without hesitation, and that’s how this project got started.
Mr. Nishioka’s initial idea was to attach the TRAIL MASTER headlamp to the RUSH HIP. But as soon as we tested the prototype, we ran into a major challenge. “Is this a bag or a belt?” It felt awkward and just didn’t work. So, we decided to focus first on perfecting the waist light as a standalone product. With Mr. Saito handling the design and me as the tester, we went through countless rounds of making, running, tweaking, and running again.
Our goal was clear: secure the light so it doesn’t bounce around, make it easy to operate during grueling overnight races, and keep the design simple and compact when not in use. This is what I, as a runner, envisioned as the ideal setup. Mr. Nishioka and I shared our thoughts and exchanged ideas and advice during online meetings.
Then, one night while running solo on my local trails, I realized we had nailed it. The vision we had in mind finally took shape. This was towards the end of the summer of 2020.
Now, six months later, we’re launching the “TRAIL MASTER + RUSH LIGHT” this month. Unfortunately, the UTMF was canceled, but I hope this light, packed with the passion of two Japanese brands, will light your next way.
Let’s pack and go and LIGHTING YOUR WAY
